The details are unclear and I can only really guess what happened but the end result is the same. It seems that while trying his best to rid us of a tree frog that managed to come into the house, Gus jumped the banister only to fall 7 feet and shatter his hind leg. I took him to an emergency animal hospital only to find that the best they could do for him was a really good shot of morphine and send him home until I could take him to the vet in the morning.
Mind you Gus, named affectionately after Gus Gus the mouse in Cinderella, loves to chase tree frogs. We have thousands of tree frogs here in Nola and I am not kidding you when I say thousands. On any given night if my front porch lights are on, I can have over 200 tree frogs on the front of my house. I will take a picture just so you can go................."You have got to be kidding me."
Anyway, I guess one of these creatures got into the house and Gus decided to take him out. Unfortunately, when Gus fell he shattered the bone that adjoins to the hip. It was so bad the broken bone punctured through the skin. So I knew that it was going to be a long night with a cat that only had one morphine shot that would last 6 hours and it would be 8 hours before he could go to the vet.
The vet did the x-ray and we saw the bone. It was bad. I am going to take a picture of that too because again that was more like......."You have got to be freakin' kidding me." She prepared me that she was going to do all she could to save his leg but I should be prepared for the fact that they may have to amputate it.
They saved the leg. With two pins and wires, they grinded up pieces of the bone that had broken apart and they built him a new bone. It is amazing what they can do. I am going to pick him up tomorrow. They have told me that this is going to take anywhere between 6 - 10 weeks of recovery and he has to wear that lamp shade looking thing around his head so he won't lick the stitches or the external pin. My poor cat, seriously, my poor cat.

It's about time you updated your blog! I'd pretty much given up checking it. Do you ever check mine? And look how nice it is to get comments! BTW, after you told me that Gus weighs 22 lbs., I had P weigh "my" Abby. She weighed in at a measly 12 lbs. And she actually looks like a big cat to me. Turns out she's just a wimpy old thing. :(
