Cold Weather and Salt Lake City????

So I am sitting here freezing, the high today was 40 and the low tonight will be in the 30's. I am wearing socks, long sleeve t-shirt, pants, and all that is going through my mind is, "How am I going to handle the cold weather of Salt Lake City???"

For those of you who don't know, our orders for our next "duty station" is Salt Lake City, Utah. We will report there sometime this year. We don't have the exact dates because that has yet to be determined. I hoping that we move during the summer as not to interrupt the school year. Steve tells me not to get my hopes up on anything because the Navy will do what it wants when it wants.

So what does a pilot in the Navy do in Salt Lake? That seems to be the question that everyone is asking. He is going to be the XO of a NOSC (Navy Operations Support Center.) What is a NOSC is usually the 2nd question. Basically it is a Reserve Center that supports reservists. He will be Executive Officer on the administrative side of the center. He will still stay with VAW-77 here in New Orleans so he can keep flying the E2-Hawkeye and keep current. The center is located at Fort Douglas up by the University of Utah. (No, we will remain BYU fans!! GO COUGARS!!)

We will be looking for a place somewhere there in the Valley. Not sure where just yet but I know my sister would love us to be her neighbor, or at least a couple of streets over, or maybe five minutes away, or just somewhere in the valley. Her answer changes depending her mood with me. :) Just kidding.

Anyway, back to the cold and the snow. Still a little leery of the cold but I it has to be said that I can't wait to get away from the HUMIDITY!!! That is one thing about the south and here in "New Saunaleans", I will be happy to have straight hair and not be sticky wet the minute I walk out the door. Last but not least, I will be thrilled not to have to worry about hurricanes for the next few years. Yeah about that!!

So there is the scoop about our new orders and what Steve is doing next. As soon as we have written orders and the dates I will post them. If you are on Face book with me, you should all know that I will be shouting that out from the roof tops. We are looking forward to white Christmases, snowmen, snow angles and skiing. Steve hasn't been skiing before and that will be a lot of fun. Here's to some fun in the cold. :)
