"Gustav" Staff of the Gods......

I took a moment when I should be packing and getting things in order, to look up the name Gustav and find out it's origin and what it means. Apparently, it means royal staff, staff of the gods. It has a Scandinavian origin.

Well then, I have to wonder, "Are the gods mad and they are swinging their staff????? "

Well if the gods are mad, I have decided to get the heck out of dodge and head on over to Pensacola. From there I am going assess the situation and if needs be, we will head over to Jacksonville. Funny enough but out there in the Atlantic is another named storm called Hanna and I am thinking that one is headed up the east coast. So I hope I am not dodging one storm to running over to another one.

I realize that we all have our catastrophe worries, tornadoes, mudslides, flash flooding, fires, but I have to tell you, these hurricanes are doing a number on me. At least I am very grateful that we can get a warning and be able to prepare.

Our home here is in a flood zone. We are surrounded by the great Mississippi river and the intracoastal waterway. The canals are full with all of the excess water we have had here in the past couple of weeks. But hey, really, what can you say when you build in an area that is below sea level?? I will hope against hope that all the millions of dollars they have spent on the levies, we will be ok.

We are leaving in the morning. I know the storm isn't supposed to be here until late Monday or early Tuesday, but getting out the city will be difficult. I would like to leave before all hell breaks loose.

Keep in touch, say a prayer and keep your fingers crossed. I wonder if Jim Cantore will be here??? I have always wanted to meet him........................nay, still not a good reason to stay. :)
